Panfish Patterns

Besides the basic small poppers, ants, and beetles, try a few of these flies on your favorite panfish lake this season. Always have small Clousers and some bead head nymphs of various colors for subsurface exploration.

Heres a couple of steelhead patterns that work well for panfish:Green Butt Skunk

Green Butt:

Hook: Size 8
Tail: Red hackle fibers
Body (Butt): Yellow green chenille, two turns
Body: Black chenille
Hackle: Black, 2 – 3 turns soft hackle
Weight as necessary.
 

Pink Mascara

This is a wonderful crappie fly, basically a reverse egg sucking leech.

Black Woolly Bugger with a bright pink Butt.

Size to suit conditions, usually size 6, 3X long.
